FRIENDS OF FISH CREEK

Vision: A sustainable Fish Creek Provincial Park that improves the quality of life for present and future generations.

Mission: To engage the community through activities and awareness to conserve a truly unique naturalized urban park.

The Friends of Fish Creek raise awareness about environmental stewardship and conservation in Fish Creek Provincial Park by engaging community members in and around the park through a variety of programs, courses, events, activities, and volunteer experiences. We work with the Park management, community partners, and many local organizations, businesses, donors, members, and granting organizations to strengthen our message and help preserve Fish Creek for the enjoyment and quality of life of future generations.

Through our Learning Naturally School Program, students from Grades K – 6 from schools in economically disadvantaged areas of Calgary are provided with a field trip in Fish Creek Provincial Park. For many of these students, this field trip is their first experience in Fish Creek or in nature in Canada. They learn about the wonders of the natural world and the importance of environmental stewardship. It costs approx. $10 to provide 1 field trip for 1 student. Each school year the program busses nearly 5000 school children from over 30 different schools to Fish Creek Provincial Park to participate in a variety of Parks programs including wetlands education and soil secrets. Through the Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink program, we could provide more program days for more students. Please consider making a donation that will be matched up to 50% and go a long way in supporting outdoor education here in Fish Creek Provincial Park.
