Elizabeth House supports pregnant and parenting young women in need. We offer secure, supportive housing and client-centered plans designed to promote the transition to successful independent living.

Elizabeth House is a life skills program and family-oriented home which welcomes at-risk pregnant and parenting women who need a safe place to live, learn, and flourish. These courageous mothers are empowered to work toward transitioning to independent living and pursue the education or job skills training necessary to set the foundation for a bright future for themselves and their babies. By working in partnership, we help to transform lives two generations at a time!

Elizabeth House has served over 200 residents and their babies (since opening her doors in 1996) thanks to the initiatives of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis as well as the funding providing by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary.

The impact of childhood poverty is not limited to a person's life under eighteen. Research shows us that it spills over to adulthood due to poor health outcomes, educational challenges (ability, access, and completion), exposure to dangerous life situations (gang participation, domestic violence, addictions) and ultimately lower, often poverty level incomes. Those children then become parents having babies in poverty and the cycle continues.A mother with a plan for her life - plus the means to work towards that plan - is in a much better position to develop a healthy outlook for her child.
