About Heart Beats:
CHD, Congenital Heart Disease, is the most common of all birth defects affecting 1 in 100 babies and remains the leading cause of infant deaths worldwide. Many children born with CHD require one or more surgeries before the age of five. Extended hospitalization, procedures and even heart transplantation mark the lives of many of these young children. For over 30 years, Heart Beats Children’s Society of Calgary has played an important role in the lives of families touched by CHD by providing them with information, resources, emotional and financial support. Heart Beats has helps families cope with the challenges involved in raising a child with this chronic and often life-threatening illness.
