Shaw Charity Classic and AltaLink Announce Multi-year Partnership Extension
— Longtime premier partner commits to continuing support for youth-based charities in Alberta —
CALGARY—Youth-based charities across Alberta already scored an ace heading into the 2022 golf season, thanks to AltaLink extending its support of the Shaw Charity Classic and the tournament’s record setting Birdies for Kids fundraising program.
The PGA TOUR Champions event in Calgary announced AltaLink will remain on as the tournament’s “Premier Partner”, while also continuing its presenting sponsorship for the record-setting Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink charitable program.
“Thousands of kids across Alberta have benefitted from the Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink program,” said Scott Thon, chief executive officer, AltaLink. “When we joined our efforts with Shaw seven years ago, we couldn’t have dreamed how impactful the program would be on the lives of children in our province. We’re thrilled to be a part of the Shaw Charity Classic for the next three years and continue our commitment to helping Albertans of all ages.”
AltaLink’s support of the Shaw Charity Classic has been a game changer in making a positive difference in the lives of thousands of Alberta children, annually helping to set new records for the largest charitable give on the PGA TOUR Champions.
“Beyond the legendary golf and the electric energy of the crowds that line the fairways of Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club each year, community has always been at the heart of the Shaw Charity Classic,” said Sean Van Kesteren, executive director, Shaw Charity Classic. “Supporting the lives of Alberta’s youth and their families has been core to our mission with bringing professional golf to Calgary. This simply does not happen without the generous support of corporate partners. AltaLink has been a key player in driving our mission over the last seven years and we look forward to building on our successful past with them over the next three years.”
Launched in 2015, the program integrates into charities’ existing fundraising efforts to help generate new funds in communities across the country, provide corporations and individual donors alike the opportunity to make one-time financial contributions to a charity of their choice. Each of the participating charities connected to the Shaw Charity Classic receive 100 per cent of all donations collected on their behalf, plus up to 50 per cent in matched funding provided by the Shaw Charity Classic.
Shortly after AltaLink committed to the initiative seven years ago, the number of charities impacted doubled and fundraising soared. The Shaw Charity Classic will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year having already raised more than $76-million for 233 children’s charities throughout Alberta.
With AltaLink’s renewed commitment, this year’s Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink program is off and running. Donations can be made online https://shawcharityclassic.com/donatenow/ or by cheque between March 1 and August 31.
The 2022 installment of the Shaw Charity Classic is scheduled to take place August 1-7, at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club in Calgary.
